Raised in New England Larry always had a passion for athletics and being outdoors. In his youth Larry was an avid sailor racing 420’s, and 210’s. When in High School Larry discovered Crew which he continued on into his college years. While in college Larry struggled with what major to choose – didn’t we go to college to major in Business? Law? Medicine? Larry decided to major in Physical Education or as his mom referred to it in a phone conversation – Recess! Larry focused his studies on Exercise Science which today is referred to as Kinesiology and graduated in 1984.
While in college Larry also discovered bike racing and eventually triathlon competing in an Ironman length triathlon in September of ’84 on Cape Cod.
Larry’s career path led him to Germany for 8 years then he landed in San Francisco where he is now the proud owner of The Center Studio for Pilates and recognized as a Pilates Master Trainer.
Larry continued with cycling in a more recreational fashion including doing AIDS Rides and long tours. Recognizing his strength as a cyclist Larry was once again bit by the racing bug and in 2011 trained with sites on racing in 2012. After a successful year Larry fast tracked from Cat 5 to Cat 3. In 2013 Larry knows that he has many challenges ahead and is also eager to start giving back what he has learned.
My mom is now very supportive of my decision to major in Physical Education and I wish to share this quote:
“When I was 5 years old, my mom told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy”. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment. I toldthem they didn’t understand life.” – John Lennon
